Plant Manager, Europoort Area

Our client, part of a US Fortune 500 company, operates a topping refinery in the Europoort region. The refinery is a 80 MBPD distillation unit that can process gas condensates and light crude oils into Light and Heavy Naphtha, Kerosine/Jet Fuel, Gasoil/Diesel, Buthane and Residual Fuel

The plant has 30 full time employees including 15 Process Operators and 17 Day shift and office employees. Various contractors support the facility in temporary and permanent capacities.

The Plant Manager will report to the Operations Director (based in Houston, Texas) and will work closely with the Operations Director and support the team to manage the overall operating performance of the facility. The role comprises two distinct functions including overall site leadership and operations management and has a wide-range of responsibilities.

Managing Operations, the plant manager will oversee day-to-day operations and will be accountable for managing the performance of the physical assets as well as the human resources that directly support the operation. Performance criteria in this area generally comprise an expectation of continuous improvement in typical operating areas such as Safety, Environmental, Compliance, Reliability, Cost Management, Yields, and Profitability.

You should expect the role to be hands-on and one that requires significant use of outside resources as well as internal support groups located in other company offices. The ability to prioritize, solve problems, and influence performance of both direct reports and indirect reports are critical skills.

Leading the Site, the plant manager will work with the Operations Director and your support team to help develop the priorities that support the strategic vision of the facility and you will help guide the team to achieve the vision. Through leadership and coaching of both your direct reports and indirect reports and through your own effort and involvement, you will be accountable for the overall health of the organization. Typical performance criteria in this area include behavior consistent with company MBM Guiding Principles, meeting commitments, achieving results, performance development and retention of high capability employees, community perception, effectiveness of partnerships with key suppliers/customers, and quality of internal and external communication.

Operations Manager, EH&S Manager,Process & Optimazation Manager, manager Logistics & Support, Maintenance Manager.

Indirect Reports:

HR Generalist/Recruiter

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous operations experience in a petroleum refinery or chemical production plant preferred (ideally as an Operations Manager or Area Operations Manager
  • Technical (Engineering) educational background preferred Bachelor/Master
  • Previous experience leading and managing teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English (written and spoken) is essential.  Ability to communicate in Dutch preferred
